Fold Forming - Leaves, Pods, and Line folds
Time & Location
About the Event
Students will learn some basic metal manipulation techniques for dimension and drama, how to strike the metal to create different shapes and how to take a flat piece of copper and turn it into a voluminous shape. Several pieces made in class can be made into jewelry or incorporated into other works.
Class will focus on creating leaves of different shapes and sizes and pods that range from canoe to curling shapes, but will also cover line folds, T-folds, and V-folds to allow creation of one-of-a-kind pieces. The use of copper allows practically limitless options for color on finished pieces; a torch to create a rainbow of color, a chemical dip to create a deep brown or blue color or it can be shined up to bright rosy copper. All tools and materials are provided to make several pendants or earrings.
If you have a cross peen or riveting hammer and steel block, please bring them to cut down on sharing. Texture tools, specialty hammers, files, and shears will be shared, but you are welcome to bring them if you have them. Tools can be purchased directly from the instructor in class for those that would like to have their own. 901-636-4128 for more information or to register by July12th. $75 MBG members/$90 non-members.If you have been vaccinated, wearing a mask is optional but encouraged while indoors.
