About the Event
Banging on metal has never looked so good! Transform ordinary copper into a stunning piece of jewelry with guest instructor Brandy Boyd. Air chasing is a technique that allows for ‘craters’ and ridges to be created in a loop or tube of metal, utilizing the properties of work-hardening to push metal into different configurations, instead of the pitch that is used in traditional chasing. This class is all about using hammers to create an organically textured copper piece to be shaped into a cuff. This hands-on class will teach you how to manipulate metal using a variety of hammers to create a one-of-a-kind cuff. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced jewelry maker, this class is perfect for anyone looking to add a new skill to their repertoire. We will break for 1/2 hour lunch.
Skill Level: Beginner and beyond.
This class will cover:
● What tools are needed and can be used for air chasing
● How to use annealing and work-hardening to drive the design of the piece
● Finishing techniques for the ends
● Shaping into a cuff
● Patina options
● Ways to customize
