Embedded Elegance - Combining Milled Metal With Project X .999
Embeddables add versatility and strength to fine silver metal clay pieces, but they can sometimes be difficult to use with clays that have a higher shrinkage rate. In this class, we'll take a bit of the mystery and math out of the equation to help you create pieces that effectively use embedded elements, especially self-made findings.
In class, we'll create a few small charms that utilize different embeddable findings so you can get comfortable with the techniques. We will create a prong setting from fine silver wire that can be used to hold an irregular stone, a faceted stone, or even wrap around the neck of a tiny vial, embedded links for bracelet or necklace segments, attach a fine silver bezel cup, a create a piece with an embedded fine silver tube setting for a round faceted stone. We'll cover not only how to incorporate these pieces into the clay before firing, but how to make them so they create strong and beautiful bonds with the clay.
