About the Event

Learn the magic of cloisonne enameling on fine silver milled-metal with guest instructor Brandy Boyd. Cloisonne enameling involves using thin strips of wire to create cells that will be filled with enamel. It can be used to create an illustrative or abstract design. This class will focus on using transparent enamels, so textural elements will also be considered for creation of the final design. Students will have the ability to create at least one piece that can be set into a setting like a cabochon at a later time. Think of the many possibilities for your creations once mastering this incredible technique!

This class will cover the following:

● Creating a dimensional shape from a fine silver sheet using a press and die or a dapping block

● Applying texture to fine silver to provide a reflective surface for enamel. Foils and hand techniques will be covered

● Creating designs using cloisonne wire

● Preparing transparent enamels for use in wet packing techniques

● Lead-free vs Leaded enamels and how to combine them

● How to smooth and finish the enameled piece

● How to set the enameled piece once completed

Whether you're interested in creating illustrative or abstract designs, this class will provide you with the foundation you need to get started. Unleash your creativity and join us for this magical experience. We will break for 1/2 hour lunch.

Skill Level: Beginner and beyond.
