KTSS- the Basics 2

Have you always wanted to learn how to make jewelry using metals like sterling silver and copper, but felt intimidated by the cost of getting started? Soldering real silver jewelry doesn’t require a setup that costs hundreds of dollars! 

All kinds of creative doors will be opened to you once you learn how to use a Butane Micro-Torch for silver soldering.In this two-day workshop, we will cover all the basics of how to start metalsmithing and soldering with a torch. 

You will create 3 styles of rings and 3 styles of earrings. We will even cover how to make your own ear wires! We will cover how to size rings in different kinds of stock, how to make a freeform wire ring, and how to set small stones in snap-prong settings or small bezel settings. For the earrings, you’ll make a pair of hoops, a pair of dangly earrings with handmade ear wires, and finally a set of post earrings with small cabochons. 

You don’t need any experience to take this class. It’s 100% beginner-friendly and all the tools and supplies are included in your tuition and kit fee. If you have your own tools, you’re encouraged to bring those so you can build familiarity with them, but there will be lots of other tools to try out at class as well.

Student supply list (if they have tools already- no need to buy!): micro-butane torch, butane, and soldering surface (soft fire brick or solderite board), jewelry pliers, jewelry files.  **Instructor will bring a selection of tools to use in class if students don’t have any of the tools- no worries! Instructor will have extra items for sale also.**
