About the Event
Have you been curious about Metal Clay? Does a material that works like a standard air-dry clay, but becomes fine silver in the kiln sound like magic?  Join metal clay instructor Brandy Boyd for a 2-day workshop covering all the basics of working  with this medium, including incorporating it into traditional metalsmithing practice.
We will cover using the different types of metal clay to their best uses. Â Students will create a pendant using natural materials such as leaves, make molds of 3-dimensional objects, like a special button or found object, and then use those molds to create unique pieces. Â Texturing and use of templates and cutters will be covered, as well as embedding fire in place CZ gemstones for earrings or small pendants. Â Students will learn how to embed milled fine silver elements to create objects with beauty and strength.
Students will leave class with at least 3 finished pieces of jewelry. Â The class kit will include handouts with photos to help after class when exploring the medium further.
Kiln and torch firing will be covered in class and students will have an opportunity to torch fire one of their projects under instructor supervision. Â A household butane torch can be used for this.
